What is the Better Cotton Initiative?

The Better Cotton Initiative exists to improve the world cotton production for people. Being thus, this cotton better for the one who produces it and for the sector, presenting best practices for the environment.

BCI intends to transform cotton production worldwide, developing the Better Cotton, because BCI works with a diverse range of stakeholders throughout the cotton supply chain.

These initiative is an exclusive global community committed to the development of the Better Cotton. In order to promote measurable and continuous improvements to:

• Environment;
• Farming communities;
• Economies of cotton producing areas.

Therefore, thus counting with four specific objectives:

• Reduce the environmental impact of cotton production;
• Improve means of subsistence and economic development in areas of cotton production;
• Improve Better Cotton’s commitment and flow throughout the supply chain;
• Ensure the credibility and sustainability of the Better Cotton Initiative.

Better Cotton Standard System

The Better Cotton Standard System is a holistic approach to sustainable cotton production. That covers the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social and economic.

Each of the elements works together to support the Better Cotton Standard System and the credibility of Better Cotton and BCI.

The system is designed to ensure the exchange of best practices and to encourage the increase of collective action to establish Better Cotton as a sustainable product.
